Jesperi Kotkianemi undergoes surgery for "minor" knee injury

Montreal Canadiens rookie Jesperi Kotkianemi went under the knife Tuesday to repair a chronic injury in his left knee.

The team described his ailment as “a chronic, minor injury that did not stop him from playing this past season,” in a statement released late Tuesday. Kotkianemi, whom the Habs selected third overall in last year’s draft, will remain in Montreal while he recovers from the arthroscopic surgery.

“We have been told by our medical group that there should be no delay in starting his offseason training,” Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin wrote in the press release.

Kotkianemi scored 11 goals, notched 34 points and was the youngest player on any National Hockey League roster this past season.
